How Crayon Eater’s Wife Started: A Story of Humor, Healing, and Home

Crayon Eater’s Wife didn’t begin as a brand, a movement, or a mission. It started with something simple: a small Facebook group and a whole lot of Military humor. A place where veterans, spouses, and supporters could come together, laugh a little, and feel understood.

We had no idea at the time. This little corner of the internet would grow into something much bigger. It became a true community.

Over time, jokes and memes turned into conversations. Conversations turned into connections. And those connections turned into support systems. Real people share real stories and real struggles. They experience real healing. All of this is built on an unlikely foundation. It consists of crayons, sarcasm, and the kind of humor only the military world truly gets.

But behind the jokes was always a deeper purpose:

To build a space where camaraderie mattered. Where you weren’t alone. Where healing through humor wasn’t just a tagline—it was a lifeline.

We’ve seen firsthand how depression, PTSD, addiction, isolation, and the weight of transition can crush someone in silence. And we’re done letting people suffer quietly.

    Our mission is simple:

Break the stigma around mental health and addiction

Support one another like a real family

    Bring veterans and supporters together

Heal through connection, community, and laughter

And remind each other that it’s okay to not be okay

Crayon Eater’s Wife grew because you showed up—sharing your stories, your humor, your struggles, and your victories. Every day, this community shows that laughter really can save lives. When one of us falls, the rest pick them up.

Thank you for being part of this wild, heartfelt, chaotic, crayon-colored journey.

We’re just getting started—and we’ve got your six.

    Service Dog Give-A-Way

We’ve got some AMAZING news to share today! As part of our Pet Therapy Thursday initiative, our very own admin P.C. Crowder — who not only serves our community but also breeds and trains dogs for veterans he is making an incredibly generous donation:

✨ A trained German Shepherd from his upcoming litter for one of our members! ✨

This isn’t just a pet—this is a life-changing partner. This dog will be trained to meet the specific needs of the selected veteran. It will offer not only companionship but real support for daily life, mental health, and healing. Animals have a powerful impact. We are beyond honored to help bring that transformation to someone in our community.

💙 CCEW1775.org and P.C. will manage the choice process and cover ALL travel arrangements for the chosen veteran. No cost. No stress. Just support, love, and a new battle buddy.

Combatting Veteran Isolation: Join Project Refit NC’s “Crayons by the Fire”

Jimmy King and I have been working with Project Refit for a little over a year now. I don’t think either of us realized just how life-changing it would be. Project Refit isn’t just another charity. It’s a lifeline for veterans. It also supports first responders who are silently carrying battles most people never see.Their mission is simple but heavy. They aim to combat isolation. They work to break the stigma of addiction and mental health struggles. They fight like hell against the heartbreaking reality of 22 a day.

    Twenty-two heroes… every single day.

We refuse to accept that. We refuse to sit still while our brothers and sisters suffer in silence. That’s why starting the first North Carolina chapter meant so much to us. We pour our hearts into every conversation and every message. We cherish every person who shows up needing someone to sit beside them in the dark.

Every first Saturday of the month, we host Crayons by the Fire at the Moose Lodge in Rocky Mount. It’s a fireside chat where walls come down. This is where real healing begins. No judgment. No pressure. No pretending you’re “fine.”

Just community. Just honesty. Just people reminding each other that their story isn’t over.

If you’re a veteran, a first responder, a spouse, or a caregiver, this space is for you. It’s also for you if you’ve ever felt alone or unseen.

Come sit with us by the fire.

Your life matters. Your voice matters. You are needed here. And you are never, ever alone.

Motorcycle Gifts: A Veteran’s Journey of Gratitude

I wanted to take a minute to talk about blessings and paying it ahead the foundation that Cew1775.org was built on. These are the blessings that will stop you in your tracks. They will remind you that you’re never walking this life alone.

About a year ago, @Beth King and I got a message that genuinely shook me. A Facebook friend reached out with an offer. This friend had simply watched the motorcycle events we attend. They saw the way we show up for our veteran community. This offer still brings me to my knees when I think about it.

He’s the owner of Outcast Cycle out in Colorado. Without hesitation, he told me he had a bike. It was a good, strong running bike. He wanted to gift it to me without asking for anything in return. Just so a veteran would feel that freedom again. Experiencing the wind and the road. Enjoying the peace we find when the world finally quiets down.

I can’t explain what that did to me. I was honored. Overwhelmed. Humbled. It felt like someone saw me. They truly saw me. They chose to pour kindness into a place I didn’t even realize needed it. It’s a debt of gratitude I’ll never be able to repay.

And then… the miracle grew legs.

While Beth and I tried to figure out shipping costs, another friend—another Marine—heard the story. And instead of asking what she could do, she simply did. She rallied an incredible group of veterans from multiple CVMA chapters. One by one, they volunteered to carry this bike across state lines. They moved it like a relay of love and loyalty. Veteran to veteran, mile after mile. Finally, it rolled into my driveway in North Carolina.

I’ll be honest… watching that unfold felt like watching the very best of humanity. It felt like God reminding me that brotherhood doesn’t fade. Not with distance, not with time, and not with life’s battles.

It doesn’t end there a friend of mine, Allen Chesser a fellow veteran and NC State Representative. Heard the story and it moved him so much that he donated his bike he wasn’t riding anymore. So Cew1775.org would fix it up and award it to another veteran who needs that same healing wind.

That’s when it hit me: This isn’t just about motorcycles. This is about heart. This is about community. This is about veterans showing up for one another the way only we can.

I’m beyond grateful. Beyond blessed. And beyond proud to be part of a community that still lives by I Got Your Six. Keep your head up. Keep your spirit open. Keep two wheels down, brothers and sisters. Blessings often show up right when your soul needs them most.
